Jonru was sentenced to 1.5 years in prison, proved to be spreading hatred and hostility

Jonru alias Jon Riah UkurĀ  Ginting sentenced to one year and six months in prison and a fine of Rp50 million for proven to spread hatred and hostility based on SARA in social media.

The verdict read out in the East Jakarta District Court on Friday (02/02) is lighter than the two-year prison sentence imposed by the prosecutor.

The panel of judges led by Antoino Simbolon declared the defendant’s actions “proven legitimate and convincing of committing a crime of disseminating information of hatred and racial intolerance.”

In the ruling, Jonru is deemed to be legally proven and convincing guilty as stipulated in Article 28 Paragraph (2) juncto 45a Paragraph 2 of Law Number 19 Year 2016 which is renewed into Law number 11 Year 2008 on Information and Electronic Transactions.

After listening to this verdict, Jonru before the panel of judges said he was still “wondering” whether to file an appeal lawsuit or not.
